Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed by endless to-do lists, scattered notes, and never-ending reminders? Well, you’re not alone. In a world where our minds are constantly filled with information and tasks, it can be challenging to keep everything organized and in one place. But fear not, because there is a solution that has taken the productivity world by storm: bullet journaling. This unique method of planning and organizing has gained a massive following for its simplicity and effectiveness. In this article, we’ll dive into the world of bullet journaling, explore various ideas, and provide you with the tools to create your own personalized bullet journal. So grab your favorite notebook and let’s get started!
What is a bullet journal?
Most journals are just lined paper. A bullet journal generally has dots so it’s easier to add lines and doodles. My scrapbook is plain pages so I’m not sure it falls in the bullet journal section- but I did add some graph paper and dotted paper to some pages.
Bullet Journaling (also known as bujo), is an artistic spin on regular journaling. You can use this method to get organized, log your thoughts, and track your goals as well as writing down the regular day to day like normal journaling.
Why Bullet Journal?
I love bullet Journaling (also known as bujo!) It’s like the fun of scrapbooking and doodling and combining it with journaling! Ask me to write down stuff in a notebook- no thanks. Ask me to doodle fun squares and circles and add stickers first, sure!
Besides being creative- bullet journaling can also
- Improve productivity:Writing down tasks, goals, and projects can increase productivity.Writing can also help with memory recall, critical thinking, and conceptual understanding.
- Reduce stress:Writing things down can help you get thoughts out of your head and make you less stressed.
- Track your progress:Keeping track of your progress and achievements can provide a sense of accomplishment.
- Help you work through difficult times:Bullet journaling can be a designated outlet to work through strong emotions or difficult times.
Supplies to use with your bullet journal
Realistically, you could use a pen, marker, and sketchbook to create your bullet journal. But since buying supplies is half the fun, here is a list of fun things you can incorporate with your journaling! I found everything at Hobby Lobby in the paper crafts section!
- sketchbook
- Stickers
- Scrapbook paper
- Washi Tape
- Markers
- page tabs
- A good adhesive (I like this tape runner from adtech)
- notecards/envelopes
- Planner papers
- Notepads
- Paint
- punches
- scissors
- paints
- pencil with eraser
Getting Started with Bullet Journals
The best part about this project is that there is no rhyme or reason! You get to create it however you want to fill any need! If you want to add quotes, photos, blank pages, or calendars, you get to! As you scroll through ideas, your wheels will start turning and then you can just sketch out ideas on each page!
I used a pencil on each page to sketch out each idea so I would remember and get the correct layout. Keep a big eraser nearby so you can erase it after you make it with the pen!
For the record, I did mess up a few times. I started drawing on the page and just didn’t like the way it turned out! I just covered the page with a cute patterned scrapbook page and started over! So don’t let mistakes bother you!
Bullet Journal ideas and inspiration
Here are some of the journaling pages I came up with- I probably could have created 100! So many fun ideas to implement! Good thing I have a few pages left in my sketchbook!
Resolutions
I didn’t really want people to see my resolutions if they are just flipping through my journal, So I attached an envelope so I could just slip it inside and it’s not on display for everyone!
keepsake page
I also attached envelopes to a page so I could keep any letters, fortune cookie fortunes, pictures etc!
Months page
This isn’t a calendar. This is a one-sentence-a-day prompt! I wanted to pick my favorite part of the day and write it on each line. At the end of the year I will have 365 amazing memories! A daily highlight! It doesn’t necessarily have to be a good thing, you could just say what happened on each day!
Book tracker
I love reading, so I wanted to fill out a bookshelf of all the books I read that year! Color in each book and write the title on the spine! I do have a printable below for this one!
TV/Movie tracker
You can use this as a list of movies you WANT to watch, or your favorite movies!
I have this generic square pattern that you can use with any page! Make a list of your favorite foods, your favorite songs, podcasts you love, etc!
Habit tracker
I need a visual checklist to mark off the new habits I’m trying to make (or old habits I’m trying to break!) This little habit trackers are stickers from hobby Lobby but you can draw your own!
Year in color
This is an old printable on my blog! You color in each day with the corresponding color for each emotion! You can grab the free printable HERE!
Things that make me happy printable
This page makes me happy! I love how cute it is! This is a free printable you can color and doodle on and then write in all the fun things you love! Chocolate, your kids, Netflix, warm days and it just keeps going!
Gratitude page
I always need a page to write down the things that I’m thankful for! It’s easy to get caught up in all the business and chaos so it’s nice to see at a glance how blessed you are! Just add in something on each ray of the sun! There is a free printable for this one too!
